University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (UACEG) is the first higher technical school in Bulgaria (founded in 1942) and is the largest educational and R&D centre in the field of architecture, urban planning, construction of buildings and structures, water supply and sewerage, wastewater treatment, hydro technical constructions, transportation constructions and geodesy. There are five faculties in UACEG: Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Hydraulic Engineering, Faculty of Transportation Engineering and Faculty of Geodesy.
UACEG is reputable and preferred higher school with highly qualified teaching staff and modern premises for studying and research activities. More than 7000 architects and 50000 engineers have graduated from UACEG since the foundation of the university. UACEG have been standing for the spirit of democracy and academic autonomy, and develops the global, European and Bulgarian higher education traditions and research. According to the University rating system of the Ministry of Education and Youth in Bulgaria UACEG received the highest score in the professional field “Architecture, civil engineering and geodesy” for the past four years.
The strategic goal of the university is to keep developing as an educational and science researching institution and as an expert centre in the sphere of architecture, civil engineering and geodesy in line with the demands, dynamic and challenges of the modern world.
The strategy for development of UACEG emphasizes on university’s contribution to the social and economic development of Bulgaria and on implementation of national policies in the field of scientific research. An essential part of these activities includes a multitude of scientific and applicable research done at the R&D centre (CNIP at UACEG) in the field of sustainable construction and environmental protection. CNIP at UACEG is a notified body under the Construction Products Regulation.
The core team of the UACEG is composed by members of the Department of Building Materials and Insulations. It is part of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and performs teaching, research and technical expertise activities in the field of resource and energy efficiency in construction by developing, testing and introducing new and innovative building materials, controlling and conformity assessment of construction products, developing innovative recycling technologies and mix design for various types of solid waste: CDW, fly ash, bottom ash, blast furnace slag, textile waste etc. The department plays leading role in the work of many scientific and practical problems, commissioned by the business and public institutions (Ministries and Municipalities). The members of the Department are experts within an accredited construction materials laboratory (USIL at UACEG).
