Pirot is a European town in the southeast of Serbia with a rich cultural tradition and history. There is a large number of churches and monasteries in the surrounding areas, and some records state that after the liberation from the Turks there was a total of 13 monasteries and 72 churches. It is located on the significant international transversal “Coridor 10”, which connects Europe with Asia, in the Middle Ages known as Via Militaris.
Pirot is an administrative center of the largest districts in the Republic, which consists of 4 municipalities Dimitrovgrad, Babusnica, Bela Palanka and Pirot.
Pirot is certainly best known for carpets, ironed sausage and Kashkaval cheese.
Today Pirot is primarily oriented on development of tourism, infrastructure, healthy food and environment and manufacturing production. Recently renovated, the Pirot Fortress (serb. Momčilov grad) has gained a lot of attention by local and international tourists. It has become one of the symbols of the town of Pirot and one of the most visited attractions in this part of Serbia.
Regarding local economy City throws open its doors to all investors who want to invest their capital in the development of Pirot economy. The biggest investor in town is “Tigar Tyres” but on this territory operated also 450 SME-S AND 1300 entrepreneurs. Free zone of Pirot is one of the most successful in Europe.
